Lead Technologist-Technical Director, Nuclear Medicine

The Lead Technologist - Technical Director, Nuclear Medicine will report directly to the Director of Diagnostic Imaging & Technology and will serve as the mentor and team leader in a manner consistent with Virginia Heart’s mission of excellence in cardiovascular care. The Lead Technologist-Technical Director, Nuclear Medicine coordinates the day-to-day operations, staffing, and effectiveness of the program across all sites, including the Cardiac SPECT and PET/CT Diagnostic Imaging Centers.
The Lead Technologist-Technical Director, Nuclear Medicine will also apply their knowledge and training to perform diagnostic procedures where needed while leading the team of Nuclear Medicine Technologists.
The Lead Technologist-Technical Director, Nuclear Medicine will be work with both Virginia Heart and Inova Leadership and will serve a liaison between Virginia Heart’s and Inova’s management teams. This requires working in both Virginia Heart and Inova facilities and communication with full-time in both entities. The position is full time based with Virginia Heart.
The Lead Technologist-Technical Director, Nuclear Medicine is responsible for supporting all SPECT and PET/CT imaging sites, including the physicians, technologists, and other staff, in providing efficient, high-quality care to their patients through the immediate supervision of employees, assessing the department and practice needs, and development of processes/ policies to enhance services provided by the Virginia Heart.
Responsibilities:
- Able to perform as a lead and mentor, will provide leadership and support to the Cardiac SPECT and Cardiac PET/CT team.
- Train and supervise all Cardiac SPECT and Cardiac PET/CT team
- Acts as a clinical resource regarding all Cardiac SPECT and PET/CT procedures and assures current standards of practice are being met
- Develop relationships with all team members where the Lead Technologist-Technical Director, Nuclear Medicine is the first point of contact with any potential problemsDevelop and maintains strong relationships with physicians, practice executives and staff members.

- Develop relationships with camera service engineers and other vendors.
- Leverage clinical expertise to monitor image quality, technical quality and interpreter confidence.
- Identify potential issues and propose solutions to management team
- Perform IAC or ACR accreditation.
- Develop and support company policies and participates in strategic planning for future growth.
- Provide technologist coverage at sites as needed.
- Monitor health physics and regulatory compliance at all SPECT and PET/CT imaging locations.
- Audit medical and regulatory records as needed to maintain.
- Maintain radiation safety logs
- Explain MPI procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedures
- Ensure appropriate prep has been followed
- Accurately calibrate and prepare the radiopharmaceutical dosages for patient testing as needed
- Administer the radiopharmaceutical agent following protocol when working directly with patients.
- Operate the gamma scintillation camera, or scanner, to obtain pictures of the radiopharmaceutical as it passes through the myocardium of the heart.
- Calibrate instruments and review data to detect trends indicating equipment malfunction.
- Document treatment data in the diagnostic template.
- Maintain accurate patient records, equipment use and maintenance, including the amount and type of radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed of.
- Perform morning and afternoon duties as stated in the nuclear medicine procedure manual.
- Work as a part of the code team when emergencies occur
- As assigned, routinely checks the emergency cart and equipment per protocol. The Senior Technologist-Technical Director is responsible for knowing the location of the medical supplies and medication on the emergency cart and the proper operation of emergency equipment.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma, or equivalent
- Associates or Bachelors degree in related field preferred
- Previous leadership experience
- Successfully completed a nuclear medicine education program, that allows them to be certified in American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
- IV credentialed.
- Radiation protection/radiation safety
- Clinical background and experience in Cardiology, Nuclear Medicine, or PET/CT preferred
- Previous leadership experience preferred
- Proficiency in MS word, Excel and PowerPoint required
- Excellent communication and organizational skills required
- Familiarity with Epic preferred
