Virginia Heart is looking for a dependable, collaborative Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our growing nuclear cardiology team in a part-time role supporting both Cardiac SPECT and Cardiac PET/CT imaging.

This position offers the opportunity to work across our outpatient nuclear cardiology program, performing SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging and supporting our Cardiac PET/CT departments in Falls Church and Leesburg.

Already experienced in SPECT but new to Cardiac PET/CT? We can train you.

Cardiac PET/CT experience is preferred, but we provide structured cross-training and competency development for qualified technologists interested in expanding their skill set.

Virginia Heart is Northern Virginia's premier cardiovascular practice, providing comprehensive cardiovascular care throughout the region. Our nuclear cardiology program includes both SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging and advanced Cardiac PET/CT services across multiple outpatient locations.

Responsibilities

Cardiac SPECT MPI

• Perform high-quality Cardiac SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging in accordance with departmental protocols and quality standards.
• Prepare, educate, position, and monitor patients throughout imaging and stress testing.
• Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and accurately.
• Operate gamma camera systems and perform required daily quality control.
• Review images for technical quality and identify when additional imaging or troubleshooting may be necessary before the patient leaves.
• Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, radiopharmaceutical doses, and patient information.
• Follow radiation safety, infection prevention, and emergency response procedures.
• Support daily scanner readiness, setup and shutdown procedures, and inventory management.
• Collaborate with technologists, medical assistants, APPs, physicians, and other team members to maintain an efficient workflow and positive patient experience.

Cardiac PET/CT

• Perform Cardiac PET/CT myocardial perfusion studies using Rubidium-82.
• Assist with FDG cardiac PET and other specialized PET protocols as trained and assigned.
• Prepare and educate patients for PET imaging and pharmacologic stress testing.
• Administer radiopharmaceuticals and medications in accordance with established protocols and scope of practice.
• Operate PET/CT equipment and perform required daily quality control.
• Perform cardiac CT imaging within established competency and licensure requirements.
• Review PET/CT studies for technical quality, including image registration and acquisition quality, before study completion.
• Perform image processing and quantitative analysis using Cedars, ImagenQ, Fujifilm, and other imaging platforms.
• Assist with glucose monitoring and patient preparation for FDG studies as needed.
• Follow established PET/CT radiation safety, medication, and dosing protocols.
• Participate in quality improvement, protocol development, research, clinical trials, or other departmental initiatives based on experience and interest.

What You Need to Bring

Required

• Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist — NMTCB or ARRT(N)
• Experience performing nuclear medicine imaging
• Strong knowledge of radiation safety, patient care, and imaging principles
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Reliability, accountability, and a team-oriented mindset
• Attention to technical quality and detail
• Ability to work independently while recognizing when collaboration or escalation is needed
• Flexibility to work at designated SPECT and PET locations based on department needs
• Current Virginia Department of Health Professions licensure, or ability to obtain required Virginia licensure

Preferred

• Experience performing Cardiac SPECT MPI
• Cardiac PET or general PET imaging experience
• ARRT(CT) or NMTCB(CT) certification
• Experience with cardiac CT, PET image processing, or quantitative myocardial blood flow analysis

Cardiac PET/CT & CT Development

Cardiac PET/CT experience is preferred, but not required for an experienced Nuclear Medicine Technologist who is eager to learn.

Cross-training may include:

• Rubidium-82 Cardiac PET myocardial perfusion imaging
• Quantitative myocardial blood flow and flow reserve
• PET/CT image acquisition and technical quality assessment
• PET image processing
• Cardiac CT
• FDG cardiac imaging
• Scanner- and site-specific competencies
• Advanced nuclear cardiology protocols and quality standards

Candidates who are not currently CT certified must be willing to complete the required CT training, certification, and Virginia licensure pathway within six months of hire.

$10,000 Sign-On Bonus awarded upon successful completion of CT training and licensure, if applicable under the current incentive program.
