RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greets patients upon arrival to the department and creates and/or verifies patient identification.
- Reviews future scheduled orders, performs patient screening, appointment confirmation calls, order management, and data entry into the EMR.
- Escorts patients from the waiting room and reviews the patient’s recent history and physical as part of the intake process.
- Provides an explanation of the study to the patient.
- Properly obtains and documents vital signs prior to the study, including blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and lung auscultation, and prepares the patient visit accordingly.
- Initiates peripheral intravenous (IV) access safely and competently in accordance with training, scope of practice, and departmental protocol, and promptly reports any complications or concerns.
- Accurately places electrodes and ECG leads on patients based on thorough training and knowledge of cardiothoracic anatomy.
- Assists the nuclear medicine technologists with beginning and ending exams in Epic, including accurately charging doses and medications.
- Assists the nuclear medicine technologists with patients in the imaging room in a safe manner.
- Adheres to established radiation safety protocols, shielding practices, and departmental procedures to maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Assists providers and/or clinicians with patients in the office as needed, including but not limited to the following tasks:
- Clinical chart preparation
- Gathering appropriate documents and signatures necessary to assist the clinician in making treatment decisions
- Assisting with patient education and answering clinical questions as needed and appropriate within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Provides a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Functions as a resuscitative team member in emergency situations within their level of expertise, training, and scope of practice as a Medical Assistant.
- Maintains knowledge of the location of medical supplies and medications on the emergency cart and the proper operation of emergency equipment within their scope.
- Assists with maintaining appropriate stock of medical and clerical supplies and reports supply needs to the manager.
- Uses downtime effectively to support department operations, including stocking supplies, maintaining organization and cleanliness, reviewing upcoming patient schedules, completing assigned administrative tasks, and assisting team members as needed.
- Attends the two-week orientation to review the clinical duties above and participates in training sessions for new processes as they are implemented.
- Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork in supporting operational and staffing needs across Cardiac PET offices throughout the region and, as needed, general cardiology offices; this position requires travel to other office locations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Medical Assistant Certification Preferred.
- High School Diploma, or equivalent.
- Must be highly skilled and proficient in starting IV's.
- Previous experience working in a medical office with both administrative and clinical experience.
- Computer Literate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior experience with the use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.
- Ability to multi-task in busy settings.
